POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (June 18, 2023) – It was another triumphant Trans Am by Pirelli weekend for Chris Dyson Racing at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Matthew Brabham put his #20 GYM WEED Ford Mustang on the pole and made it a clean sweep, leading Saturday’s road-course 100-mile sprint race from green flag to checker, while setting the fastest lap of the race. Teammate Chris Dyson finished second in his #16 GYM WEED Ford Mustang after a race-long battle with Adam Andretti.“It’s so satisfying to win at Indy, a place that’s been important to my family and where I’ve lived for ten years now,” said Brabham, an Indy 500 vet who in 2014 won the Indy Lights race on the Speedway’s road circuit. “Thanks to Chris for having me on the team. The car was perfect in qualifying yesterday and the race today. Winning is always hard, but it’s easier when you have a great team supporting you.”
While Brabham led, Dyson’s battle with Andretti added excitement to the race. That duel wasn’t determined until three laps from the end, when Andretti’s Camaro had a tire issue.
“Matty did a fabulous job today,” Dyson said. “I couldn’t be happier for him and for the team with another sweep. Both of the GYM WEED cars had great pace today. It was an incredible and memorable race-long battle with Adam, who is a close friend of mine and of my family. It was great racing hard and clean with him for so many laps. We were so closely matched. In those last couple of laps it could have gone either way.”
Next Up: Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course
The Trans Am Series’ next event for the headline TA class is this coming weekend, June 22-25, at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Dyson won the 2021 edition on his way to the first of his two Trans Am championship titles, and Brabham won the 2022 Ohio event.
“I love racing at Mid-Ohio,” Dyson said. “I’ve had some amazing races there and I expect both Matty and I will be quick there. Also, because it’s a fast track that puts an emphasis on handling as well as power, Mid-Ohio should give us a good comparison of Matty’s #20 Meissen chassis and my #16’s Riley. We have great momentum as a team right now.”
