DYSON LOOKS TO EXPAND HIS TRANS AM POINT LEAD AS SERIES RETURNS TO INDIANAPOLIS MOTOR SPEEDWAY

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (June 12, 2023) – It’s been four years since the Trans Am by Pirelli series visited the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The 2019 race marked Chris Dyson’s third-ever Trans Am win and on Saturday the two-time and defending series champion will be looking to expand his 2023 point lead by taking his second consecutive Indy victory and his  22nd career win in the headlining TA class.

Dyson will be joined at Indy by his CD Racing teammate Matthew Brabham in their #16 and #20 GYM WEED Ford Mustangs, respectively. The race comes on the heels of a very successful test at Watkins Glen International last week, and follows a second-place finish for Dyson and third place for Brabham at Lime Rock Park on Memorial Day.

“Matty and I both drove my #16 Riley-chassis car at the Glen,” Dyson said. “We were able to prove out a number of setups that we had previously modeled, but hadn’t yet had a chance to test. I think we made a lot of progress and showed some impressive speed that we will take with us to Indy. And I expect what we uncovered last week at The Glen will continue to pay dividends throughout the rest of the season, particularly at the faster circuits.”

Dyson admitted to a bit of disappointment with his second-place finish at Lime Rock Park. “I had won the past three races at Lime Rock and it’s our home track. And going back to the end of last season CD Racing had won five straight races. But I can’t be that dissatisfied given that I came away with an even larger lead in the point standing than at the start of the weekend and Matty solidified his hold on second place.”

The Mystique and Challenge of Indy

There is no better known racing facility in the world than the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and every driver who competes there is eager to list an Indy win on his or her racing resume. “Every win over the course of my career has been meaningful to me,“ Dyson said. “But I have to admit there was something special about winning at the Speedway. And it would mean a lot to add a second one.“

Dyson described the facilities road circuit as “demanding and quite technical. To be fast there you need to be both precise, and consistent, and have a car that is easy on its tires.“
