TRANS AM SUMMER BREAK OVER, DYSON SEEKS WATKINS GLEN WIN

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (August 20, 2024) – Chris Dyson is ready to get back racing! Following an eight-week break in the Trans Am Series by Pirelli schedule, the three-time defending champion is eager to get back into his #16 GYM WEED Ford Mustang for this weekend’s 100-mile sprint race at Watkins Glen International, the first of the season’s final four events.

“We had a good test last week at Virginia International Raceway, just to get back in the swing after that long summer break,” Dyson said. “From a competitive standpoint, I’d prefer a more even cadence of races over the course of the season, but a lot of factors go into determining the schedule. But the other side of the coin is that I was able to spend more time enjoying doing things with my family while our kids were out of school, and those memories are priceless. I’m feeling great and fit and ready for the stretch run of this year’s championship tour.”

Watkins Glen is one of Dyson’s favorite tracks. He’s won two of the past five Trans Am races held at the historic Central New York circuit and finished on the podium for the other three. “We always run strongly here,” Dyson said. “The Trans Am cars are spectacular and as long as the straights are there, with nearly 900 horsepower, the corners come up pretty quickly.”

Watkins Glen holds a special place in the Dyson family’s racing landscape. Significant milestones, both large and small, have been logged here. From Rob Dyson’s claiming his first-ever SCCA race victory in his debut event, to Chris Dyson’s first career pole, amidst decades of podiums and wins in its marquee sports car races, the Finger Lakes landmark has been a veritable showcase for the Poughkeepsie-based organization.

“Every race we do matters,” Chris Dyson noted. “But the ones at The Glen just take things to the next level. I think it’s partly because it’s a second ‘home track’ for us, and the whole New York area element. But it’s also because it’s such a renowned and historically important venue, one that has been very good to us over the years. It’s one of the most demanding and exciting circuits in the world. One hundred percent, top shelf.”
