POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (March 21, 2023) – Chris Dyson scored his first-ever Trans Am by Pirelli victory in 2018 at Road Atlanta during his first full season in the series. This weekend Dyson will be chasing his 21st Trans Am race win and his fourth at the famous Georgia circuit. The two-time defending series champion also won there last year as well as in 2020, both times from pole position.
“Road Atlanta is a great track and one of my personal favorites, and not just because of the race wins,” Dyson said. “It’s fast and flowing; in the course of my two-decade racing career I’ve got thousands of miles there. I always look forward to racing at Road Atlanta. Every lap is a supreme test of commitment and precision.”
Dyson and his #16 GYM WEED Ford Mustang, winners of the series’ most recent event earlier this month at New Orleans, will be joined in Georgia by his CD Racing teammate Matthew Brabham in the #20 GYM WEED Ford Mustang. Brabham currently leads the 2023 points standings; he won the Trans Am series opener at Sebring after Dyson’s mount broke and finished second at New Orleans. Dyson is currently third in the title chase, two points behind Justin Marks, who started from pole position in the season’s first two races. Dyson is looking to overhaul Marks in the points standings and close the gap on his teammate Brabham.
Teammates Battle
Dyson and Brabham agree that the goal this weekend is for a third consecutive CD Racing sweep of the top two steps of the podium. But they have opposite views as to who should be standing on the top step. “Matty and I will both be trying to win, but we race each other clean,” Dyson said, noting that they will both have to handle challenges from their full-season competition.
“My problem at Sebring put me behind the 8-ball a little and means I’m going to take the fight to all of them at Road Atlanta and throughout the season.”
Dyson predicted that Tomy Drissi, Ken Thwaits, David Pintaric and former series champion Amy Ruman would also all be in the mix all season.
Shared Family Success at Road Atlanta
Road Atlanta has been a grand stage for both the Dyson and Brabham families over the decades. Chris Dyson’s father Rob won the 1981 SCCA National Championship there and the Dyson Racing Team claimed prototype sportscar race wins at Road Atlanta in 1987, 1997 and 1998. Chris Dyson clinched his 2003 ALMS Championship at that year’s edition of the Petit Le Mans. Matt Brabham’s father Geoff, a four-time IMSA GTP champion, claimed consecutive sportscar triumphs at Road Atlanta in 1988 and 1989. And his uncle David Brabham claimed an overall win in the 1999 Petit Le Mans event.

The 100-mile Bennett/BridgeHaul Classic Race takes the green flag Saturday, March 25 at 12:50 p.m.
