POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (Sept 6, 2022) – Last year the Trans Am by Pirelli Series held a double-race weekend at the classic Watkins Glen International circuit and Chris Dyson won both on his way to winning the 2021 series title. This season Dyson won five of the first six races on the schedule before interrupting his win streak with second- and third-place finishes at the two most recent events. While the pair of podium finishes actually further expanded his already substantial 2022 championship point lead with three races remaining, Dyson is keen to put his #20 ALTWELL Ford Mustang in the winner’s circle and again climb to the top step of the podium.
“I love The Glen,” Dyson said. “We had a great weekend there a year ago, winning both the Saturday and Sunday races. But my affection for the track goes lots deeper than that. Before I was born my dad (Rob Dyson) ran his first-ever SCCA race at The Glen. I raced there during my club-racing days and Dyson Racing had great success there over the years.”
In 2002 Chris Dyson became the youngest-ever winner of the Six Hours of the Glen, co-driving with James Weaver. Collectively, since 1983, Dyson Racing and CD Racing have claimed ten major victories at the famed New York Finger Lakes circuit.
With a 65-point lead over second-place Ken Thwaits (241-146) in the championship standing and one point more over Tomy Drissi, with just the final three rounds remaining Dyson might be expected to play it safe and take a defensive posture, sitting on his point lead. But that isn’t Dyson’s approach.
“Every race I start my goal is to win” Dyson said. “That’s the approach I’ve always taken – win the races and the championships take care of themselves. It’s worked well for me and I’m not about to change a winning formula. If I don’t win on Sunday it won’t be because I wasn’t racing as hard as I can, getting everything out of the car and myself.”
Fix Joins Chris Dyson Racing for Watkins Glen
Trans Am Veteran Paul Fix will drive the #21 allgram Ford Mustang this weekend, sitting in for Humaid Masaood, who will return to the cockpit for the final two races of the season.
“Because of business commitments I‘m not able to do this race,” Masaood said. “I’m pleased that Paul was available to drive this weekend.”
“We are all happy to have Paul join the team at The Glen,” Dyson said. “He is a professional with vast Trans Am experience. Paul is both fast and reliable. I expect him to be a major factor on the race.”
Although Fix regularly competes at circuits all over North America, for the Western New York native, Watkins Glen is his home track. “It’s great to have such a great ride with best team in the series,” Fix said. “I’m grateful to Humaid and Chris for putting me in the car and I’m happy to be able to showcase my sponsors, StopFlex and Classic Tube. I’m really looking forward to a great result this weekend.”
Winners Circle Program
The Winners Circle Program supports STEAM education at the high-school level through faculty-supervised hands-on and academic work. Over the course of an academic year and the following summer participating school’s teams construct from the ground up a Factory Five roadster. Since 2019 the teams compete against one another in the Winners Circle Project Championship Weekend at Watkins Glen International, held in conjunction with the annual Trans Am race.
On Friday all the cars will be judged for construction quality and other factors. On Wednesday, as part of the inter-school competition and with Winners Circle Program students and faculty advisors in attendance, Chris Dyson will conduct an on-track evaluation of the cars produced by each team.
“We are grateful to Chris for his expertise in evaluating our team’s cars,” said Pius Mawejje Kayiira, the organization’s founder and executive director. “And to The Dyson Foundation, for its continuing support since the founding of the Winners Circle Program in 2019.”

Winners Circle Project
The Winners Circe Project is a non-profit organization which has been meticulously designed to inspire fresh, young, innovative minds through STEAM programs embedded in the exciting world of car racing. Through our work, the fields of science, technology, engineering, arts and math come alive for our students through, on, and beyond the racetrack!
Throughout the course of one academic year, high-school students build a Factory Five vehicle from the ground up. Using a project-based curriculum created by WCP, a teacher guides the students on their journey of learning through every aspect of the process.
The program is focused on more than simply the mechanics of the build, but what it takes to develop an entire racing team—a business. WCP students will participate in activities and classes designed to introduce them to an array of fields including marketing, journalism, video production and public relations—allowing the exploration of previously undiscovered areas of strength and opportunities for growth. The program also provides internship opportunities through Alfred State College’s Motorsports Program are available.
