DYSON LOOKS FOR HOME TRACK ADVANTAGE AT LIME ROCK PARK’S MEMORIAL DAY TRANS AM

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (May 26, 2022) – Others might expect Chris Dyson to be taking for granted this weekend’s Trans Am by Pirelli race at Connecticut’s Lime Rock Park. After all, as the 2022 championship schedule hits its midpoint. Dyson, the series point leader, has driven his #20 ALTWELL Ford Mustang to victory in four of the five rounds of America’s oldest professional road-racing series. On top of that, Dyson, the reigning series champion, has also won in flag-to-flag fashion the two most recent Trans Am races (last year and in 2019) at Lime Rock.

But Dyson is not complacent as he returns to the East Coast this weekend. “Every race is a new one and what you did in the race before or years before doesn’t count,” Dyson said. “There are no sure things in racing,” he continued, noting that while contesting the lead at Charlotte Motor Speedway earlier this season his Mustang suffered a tire problem, dropping him to a fifth-place finish.

One of the things that makes Lime Rock special for Dyson and his team is its proximity to the race shop, which is just an hour’s drive away in Poughkeepsie, NY. “We race all over the country,” Dyson noted, “but this holiday weekend is the chance for all of our families and friends to enjoy watching us race in person. It gives all of us on the team an extra incentive to be at our best.”

Dyson does confess to a home track advantage at the short but very fast historic New England circuit, where he holds the Trans Am lap record. In 1995, at 17, he did a three-day Skip Barber Racing School at Lime Rock, drove a Spec Racer Ford in his first SCCA club race and later won his first National SCCA National there.  Dyson has also won outright at Lime Rock in the IMSA American Le Mans Series.

Five Decades of Winning History

But the story of Chris Dyson and his family at Lime Rock Park goes back even further. As a young boy the second-generation driver frequently watched his dad, Rob (an SCCA National club racing champion) race Datsun sedans there and in 1985 Chris looked on as the Dyson Racing Team made its IMSA GTP debut with a victory at Lime Rock Park over the Memorial Day weekend.

“Those early days of watching races and watching Dad compete at Lime Rock are still very vivid memories” Dyson said.  “The experiences as a boy at Lime Rock planted the seed of interest for my passion for racing.  From a very early age, I was so drawn to the excitement of the competition and the incredible Lime Rock speeds. It was thrilling.  And then watching the IMSA GTP cars and Trans Am machines battle in front of those incredible 1980s crowds, I couldn’t help being drawn into it all.  The environment is always just so welcoming for kids at Lime Rock, too.  It really is a park with race cars and at a young age what’s better than that combination?”

Other significant Dyson Racing achievements at Lime Rock include overall victory at the 2001 Rolex Grand American Series.
