POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (June 24, 2021) – Following a dominant Memorial Day victory at Connecticut’s Lime Rock Park, Chris Dyson looks to expand his Trans Am Championship by Pirelli points lead as the series makes a two-race Midwest swing with events this weekend and next at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and Wisconsin’s Road America circuit.
At Lime Rock last month Dyson accomplished his goal of securing the series point lead when he put his #20 ALTWELL Ford Mustang in the winner’s circle, leading every lap of the race and in the process becoming the sole driver so far this season to score a second race victory. Dyson’s aim over the next two weekends is to continue his winning momentum and expand his championship lead.“We seem to have a slight edge over the rest of the field at this point,” Dyson said. “But the competition in this series is ferocious and there are no easy wins. Realistically, every time the green flag drops, anyone in the first third of the grid is a potential race winner. I head into every race weekend knowing that the team and I have to do our very best to win here.
“The team has the car running really well,” Dyson continued, “and so far this season we’ve had excellent reliability, which was a costly issue for us the last two years. I love driving these TA-class cars because they are very powerful and fast and they lack the driver aids most race cars have today. So the driver is a bigger part of the equation, which makes the racing so much more satisfying for me.”
Dyson noted that Mid-Ohio and Road America present an interesting comparison as road-racing venues. “These tracks are truly classic American layout and require a lot of commitment with very little margin for error. Mid-Ohio is a more twisty circuit with a lot of connected corner sequences. It’s really important to have a car with a strong front end at Mid-Ohio. It is also probably one of the most physically and mentally demanding tracks where we compete. Road America, on the other hand, is massively fast with lots of really long straights and heavy braking zones. Traction off the corners is a premium at Road America. The surfaces of the two tracks couldn’t be more different. Thankfully, we have a good “cookbook” of set-up configurations and we’ve been very fast at both circuits that past few years.” Dyson set the fastest lap at Mid-Ohio in 2020 and won the 2020 edition of Road America having started from pole in 2019 and 2020. Qualifying for this weekend’s race at Mid-Ohio takes place on Saturday, June 26, from 4:55 to 5:10 pm (ET). The 45-lap (100-mile) race takes the green flag Sunday, June 27 at 1:10 pm (ET).

Qualifying for next weekend’s race at Road America takes place on Saturday, July 3, from 8:40 a.m. to 8:50 a.m. CT (9:40 a.m. to 9:50 a.m. ET). The 25-lap (100-mile) race is scheduled to start Sunday, July 4, at 8:00 a.m. CT (9:00 a.m. ET).
