DYSON AIMS FOR THIRD STRAIGHT TRANS AM WIN AS GUY SMITH JOINS TEAM FOR ROAD AMERICA

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (June 30, 2021) – Hot off wins at Lime Rock Park and Mid-Ohio, defending race winner and current Trans Am championship point leader Chris Dyson is looking to set off some fireworks on July 4th at Wisconsin’s Road America circuit with a third victory in a row aboard his #20 ALTWELL Ford Mustang.

“We’ve got great momentum going now,” said Dyson, whose three National series wins make him the only driver to have won more than once as the 2021 Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli hits its mid-point. “Road America is a special place for the Dyson family and I’ve personally had a lot success here.  I love the place and it’s rightfully considered one of the greatest road racing tracks in the world. Our ALTWELL Mustang is well suited to this circuit. I’m optimistic about the weekend.”

In addition to winning the Trans Am race last year, Dyson has won the pole at Road America in the past two years. In the past he’s won multiple races here in the IMSA American Le Mans Series and in the Pirelli World Challenge for Bentley in 2015.

Smith Fills In For Masaood

With Humaid Masaood, Dyson’s regular Trans Am teammate, stuck at home in the UK due to travel issues, Dyson has tapped longtime friend and sportscar racing teammate Guy Smith to drive the sister #21 Mustang at Road America.

“I look forward to having Humaid back in his car at Brainerd,” Dyson said. “In the meantime, it’s great that Guy is able to join the team for Road America. In addition to winning championships together in the American Le Mans Series, Guy and I have both done well at Road America, including winning the closest-ever ALMS race in 2012. Fortunately Guy was racing this past weekend at Watkins Glen, so the logistics were easy. It’s just like old times.”

Smith, the 2003 Le Mans 24-Hour winner and 2011 IMSA American Le Mans Series Champion, was delighted to get the call.  “I was already in the USA racing at Watkins Glen when Chris reached out, actually just a few hours away from the team’s base in Poughkeepsie.  So it worked out well and I’m really excited about this weekend.  Rejoining Chris and the Dyson group is like a homecoming for me.  This has always been my American ‘racing family.’  Chris has been telling me about the Trans Am cars for a few years, so I’m eager for this opportunity to race one with him.  The team has been doing a great job so far this year so the objective this weekend is to get both the cars on the podium and help the team in the championship.”

Further reprising the halcyon era of Dyson Racing, Smith’s #21 Mustang will carry the familiar branding from the Thetford Corporation for this weekend’s event.
